Second Trimester

Week 14:  Fine hair has begun to grow on the baby's head and sexual differentiation has become apparent.

Week 16:

Week 18:  Mother can begin to feel baby move. The baby is 8-10 inches long and weighs a half pound or more. The mother's pregnancy will begin to show. The ears are functional and baby can hear mom talking and her heartbeat. The umbilical cord is functioning, moving fluid in and out every 30 seconds.

Week 20:  Half the pregnancy has now passed and the baby is 12 inches long. If a loud or startling sound occurs around the mother, the baby may react to it in the womb.

Week 24: Oil and sweat glands are functioning. If the baby were born now and given proper medical attention, he/she would survive.
